Storytelling with Photojournalism, a Solo Stage Performance and an Interview

Storytelling and Photojournalism

This is an interesting interview, A Different Approach To Storytelling, on photojournalism (some call it visual journalism) and storytelling. Here’s a sampling to pique your curiosity if the picture hasn’t already done so. “It’s that we each bring our own perspective, our backgrounds, and our own prisms to a photograph because still images inherently lack the context—the rest of the story. The captured moment doesn’t tell you what happened before or after, though it can be incredibly powerful in getting you into an emotional state. I feel photography needs to have context around it to be the powerful storytelling mechanism that we’re trying to create…”

It’s a very thoughtful interview that I think you’ll enjoy reading.

CRASH, A meditation on the urge to tell a story

‘CRASH’ explores nature of storytelling

“‘CRASH’ celebrates the ephemeral nature of performance, and the basic storytelling nature of human beings that binds us together, creates community, preserves memory, conveys wisdom and reminds us that we are not alone,” Kim said. “We share stories in real time and in the same undifferentiated space. ‘CRASH’ addresses the question, ‘What if how I see the space I am in, with you, is a means by which the story arises without my having to look for it?’”

The nice thing about all of the interest in story and storytelling are the experimental, envelope pushing endeavors such as this. If you happen to be in Arizona and get a chance to see this, be sure to let us know what you thought of it.

An interview with Steve Denning

If you’re heading to the Smithsonian weekend in DC in April (or even if you’re not), you might want to listen to this 15 minutes interview with Steve Denning, the acknowledged leader in organizational storytelling and business communication.
