The folks at Jackson Fish Market have just announced their latest creation, A Story Before Bed. I’ve been a fan of theirs for some time now and I think that this is a terrific idea.
They are targeting parents and grandparents but I think that their market reach will be much broader once word starts to spread. The idea is that you record yourself (audio and video) reading one of the books in the Story Before Bed library. You save the recording which can then be retrieved by the youngster of your choice as many times as they’d like. You need a computer with a webcam and a browser in order to take advantage of the service.
They are working with three launch publishing partners – Immedium, Charlesbridge Publishing, and Bubblegum Books to create a launch library of over 50 books. It’s an impressive lineup and is sure to grow as the popularity of the service takes off. They are even offering a small Spanish library as they start out.
You can try it out for free. Doesn’t get much better than that. If you decide to save your recording, it will cost you $6.99 during the introductory period. They also offer live, yep, that’s right, live, 800 technical support. When was the last time you saw that offered by a web service company?
They also have a special deal for military families and those men and women who are deployed or stationed away from their children.
You can follow them on Twitter @astroybeforebed.
Give it a try when you get a chance and be sure to spread the word if you like what they’re doing. What a great way to share stories with the little ones you love. What a great way to teach them to love story telling.
